St Mungo’s youth had the joy of being part of Magnitude 2021! Magnitude, formally Soul Survivor, is normally a huge youth camping event hosted at Lendrick Muir. This year we had a covid safe online version. We were able to watch our hosts ‘live’ from Lendrick Muir, while at our own Ministry Centre. This year’s Magnitude consisted of: amazing activities throughout the day set up by our lovely youth leaders, packed teas, Magnitude streams, sung worship and group times.
Saturday was our first day and we met together, in the gorgeous weather, to explore the zoo. We started the trek up the top of the hill to see the new giraffes, which we all were (especially Lindsay) very excited to see. We saw flamingos, chimps, pandas and so much more on our way up. Then, penguins and an amazing rolled ice cream place on our way down. The ice cream was easily my highlight of the zoo. It was so satisfying to watch it being made and even more enjoyable to eat it. Afterwards, we went to the Wellness Centre and had our packed teas together. Then we made our way to the Ministry Centre to watch the live stream from Lendrick Muir. Saturday’s talk was by Bridget Sunderland on encountering God. About Jesus meeting a woman at the well and letting Jesus meet us where we are.
On Sunday, we all took part in combat laser tag and there are a few assassins amongst us apparently! We split into teams, ‘bravo’ and ‘alpha’, we competed in two team matches and a game of capture the flag. It was exhausting but unbelievably fun. Team Bravo (my team) won overall! Then, like Saturday, we ate, chatted together again and then tuned into Magnitude. D-Ferg talked about being captivated, telling us the story of the bleeding woman who touched Jesus cloak and was healed. She was then focused on and captivated by Jesus.
To finish off our online Magnitude youth weekend, we met once more to on Monday evening to eat and catch up together. We played a few games before our last stream. The worship each day was wonderful as we haven’t been able to sing together in over a year! I also really enjoyed the group time where we would discuss the talk. Monday’s talk was the perfect end to our weekend. A very engaging talk by Dez Johnston on being empowered which asked us what have you been called into and what have you been made for. It was a super impactful talk and very memorable.
Magnitude has been amazing. I am beyond grateful that it was able to happen. So, a HUGE thank you to St Mungo’s youth leaders and the Magnitude team for making it possible.
