Notice re AGM Sunday 30 January

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 10.30am: Sunday 30 January

This year, our AGM will be held as part of our 10.30am in person services (both Balerno & Livingston).

Our church constitution requires that 25% of all who are eligible, must attend the AGM for it to be considered a valid meeting in the eyes of our charity regulator, OSCR.  This means we absolutely need at least 130 church members aged 16 and over to be present at one of our 10.30am in person services.

What will be covered at the AGM?

We will be covering our usual formal business which includes affirming the reappointment of:

  • McLachlan + Tiffin as our Auditor

  • Alison Wilson as the People's Warden

Steve Denning will be stepping down from Vestry after January and also the role of Lay Representative to the Diocese.  Therefore, you will also be invited to affirm the following:

  • Francis Cummings as the new Lay Rep

  • Alison Wilson as the Alternate Lay Rep

You will also be invited to affirm the appointment of two new Vestry Members [photos below]:

  • Tara Devlin

  • Gareth Ihmig

Tara and Gareth have been nominated by the Vestry to succeed Brodie Petrie & Chris Sawyer as they reach the end of their terms of service.  To see the full Vestry, and find out more about their role, follow this link https://stmungos.org/vestry

As is customary, further background information about Tara and Gareth is set out below:

Tara joined St Mungo’s at the end of 2004 when she married Adrian.  She has been involved with both the children and youth ministry over the years as well as being part of the Life Seasons team.  Tara and Adrian have been supported by St Mungo’s on two occasions as they served in ministry in Jamaica.  Having previously worked for Tearfund for 16 years Tara now works full time for a local charity supporting those living with HIV and Hepatitis C in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Gareth works as a business owner and director of a commercial ground maintenance business.  He joined St Mungo’s in 2016 with his wife, Nicola, and son, Michael.  They welcomed their second son, Matthew, in early 2018.  Gareth was born in South Africa and moved to Scotland in 2003 to play rugby where he met Nicola.  Gareth is part of the Livingston congregation and serves on both the set-up team and youth team.  He has enjoyed helping and leading the men’s ministry events in Livingston and introducing the South African love of meeting and eating to this group.

How will we affirm these nominations?

We will be using the usual paper-based affirmation document.  Exactly how we do this will be explained at the AGM itself but rest assured your participation will be confidential.

What won't be covered at the AGM?

Traditionally, we have combined the AGM with our annual Vision Sunday talk.  Ollie will be sharing his Vision talk later in the year.

What if I can’t attend the AGM in person?

**CORRECTION** - we said in our email communication that the Vestry nominee affirmations required to be completed in person. However, we have now updated this to confirm that an online voting form will be issued via ChurchSuite for members of the congregation watching the live stream. This form will be open for the duration of the service only.

A copy of the Annual Vestry Report and the AGM agenda, will be sent to you during the week running up to 30 January.

Thank you in advance for your support.
