Our church vision this year is to Be Love. As we have and still are discovering, this means many different things and every serving team is embodying that vision as we meet on Sundays or share God’s love in our communities. This is my chance to tell you what that looks like on the helpfully titled 0-18 team.
It means getting to know some of our amazing babies, children and young people. It means finding out what their week looks like and chatting to them about that. It means praying with and for them. It means playing games and reading stories. It means watching them grow. It might mean reading a Bible story, or telling about a miracle Jesus did. You might find yourself in a conversation about what it looks like to be a Christian on a Monday morning. If you have the energy it could involve kicking a ball around or baking on a Friday night. Or perhaps you'll end up with a toddler sitting on your knee as you sing about how big God is.
Whether you're young or old, working or retired, male or female, you could be part of the team who disciple the future generations.
There are regular opportunities on Sunday mornings and Friday evenings as well as occasional or one off events where you could get involved! Teams work on a rota - some are term time only and some run all year. Job shares are available too. The only requirements are enthusiasm, a faith in Jesus and an obvious commitment to St Mungo’s (ie being in a house group or similar).
So speak to one of the 0-18 staff. If you're not sure which age group you are interested in, that's ok - speak to any of us and we will help you out. Visits and trials are always available before you sign up and training is available. (PVG checks will also be carried out). If you were a child in church, I wonder who your favourite Sunday school teacher or mission volunteer was? In a few years time, someone could be answering that question with your name!
